The Strongest Part Of Me

Today is my dad’s birthday. He would have been 86. It’s the 3rd one without him. I wish I had gotten to spend his last one with him, but it was 2020, and we all know what a complete mess that year was. For the last 2 birthdays, I’ve drank a Coke (his beverage of choice) and watched an episode of an old western. Rawhide, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, he watched those all the time. My mom said he could find an episode of any of those shows any day, any time. I have a Coke. I just… Well, I hope he understands, but I probably will not watch an episode of Rawhide this year. 😂 (I watched Gunsmoke last year, and Bonanza the year before.) But maybe I can find an old western movie on one of the streaming services. I used to buy my dad DVDs for his birthday of old western movies, or war movies. My mom has them now. She uses them for doorstops. 🤣

I miss my dad. But it’s not the constant ache it was before. I’d say time heals all wounds, but mostly time makes it more tolerable.

When A Flower Grows Wild, It Can Always Survive

Whenever I end my streams on Twitch, I always tell people basically the same thing. “Please go do something nice for yourself because self care is important, and you’re absolutely worth it.” It’s not something I say just to say. I do actually mean it. But I never tell people what they should do for self care because I feel like it’s highly personalized.

When people think “self care,” I know visions of face masks and bubble baths typically come to mind. And yes, that can be self care if you like that. But self care can be bigger, or smaller, than that. Sometimes it’s journaling. Sometimes it’s going on a walk. It can be taking 10 minutes to yourself to do a crossword puzzle. It can be facing one of your fears so that it no longer troubles you. It can be going to therapy. It can be just taking a nap in the sun. As long as it’s for you, and benefits you, it’s self care.

Today my self care was buying myself something pretty in SL and creating a photo. I feel good about it. I hope you all are taking care of yourselves. ❤

And I Will Never Be Ignored

I’m not sure what it is, but I never seem to get tired of doing “darker” photos in Second Life. I’m not quite like that at all. I’m more Enid Sinclair than Wednesday Addams in my day to day life. More kittens and bunnies, less snakes and ravens. My RL oldest sister was what probably would be considered ethergoth. You know, all lace and ethereal music and morbid poetry. Her whole aesthetic was amazing. My aesthetic is probably … well, a lot more colorful and pop princess and boho chic and basic B. But for some reason in SL, the “dark” photos just speak to me and I love doing them.

Who knows? Maybe I have a little bitty bit of goth in me after all.

I’ve Been Careless With A Delicate Man

I really enjoy doing photos that make me seem a little different than I actually am. Like take today’s photo, for example. I’m not really a “sexy” person. I don’t typically run around SL in sky high platform heels and shiny skimpy outfits. But I think that’s what makes it so fun! Because maybe there is a little bit of *that* girl in me. I just keep her hidden away until it’s time to shine.

You Belong Among The Wildflowers

So I’ll admit it, I’m kind of having *a day* today. I am tired, I am stressy, I want to eat all the food in the world. I’m cold. I’m wearing socks that won’t stay up. My hair dried weird. And I’m pretty sure I have scurvy.

But you know what? It’s okay. Because today in SL, I’m a fairy, flitting among the wildflowers, enjoying the sun. And that makes it all better.

Am I More Than You Bargained For Yet?

First of all, don’t look at my ears. I forgot to wear earrings.

When I was younger, I got involved with some skaters. Now let me make it clear, I was not a skater. I got on a skateboard once and immediately fell off and figured that you know what? This is not worth it. 😂 But I liked the music, the fashion, and the people in the group were super cool. I moved on, as I do, but I still really enjoy the aesthetic. But not enough to ever stand up on a skateboard again.

In my real world, I live in Texas. I mean, I don’t know how people don’t realize that. My whole region is named after the state flower. 😅 But the other day, someone asked where I was from and then was surprised because they said I didn’t have an accent. I’m not sure exactly what they think I’m supposed to sound like, but I guess it’s not…this?

But even if I don’t sound like it, I can still dress like a cowgirl.

I’m Busy ’cause I’m Pretty

Do you ever just feel really busy even though you know that you’re really not doing much that is productive? I feel like this in SL very often! But usually my “busy” is just me shopping. ESPECIALLY on the weekends! Oh my word, the weekend sales. There are so many and most of them are so good! And then the big events, and random sales, and… Well, it’s enough to keep anyone busy just hopping from place to place!

Forever and Again

By the start of July 2020, I was blogging for probably some of the biggest and best events on the grid. I don’t say that as a weird flex or anything, it’s simply true. I worked really hard to get to that point. I’d been blogging over 10 years by that point, and I was at the top of my game. But then my dad passed away and everything went to hell. It happens, you know?

But coming back and returning to blogging has been healing in so many ways. The one thing that has bothered me, though, is how I very much did not do my best in those last few months before I left. I’ve been trying to sort through my inventory, and oh my god. I have folders for events and so many things I never even opened. I tried. I really did. But if you knew me back then, you know how horrible everything was for me, how not myself I really was.

I’ve been trying to incorporate some of those items into my posts now. It’s hard because of course, people want to see new items, even though those old ones are still perfectly fine. (For the most part. Some of the clothing doesn’t fit new bodies.) It’s a little tedious at times, because if I use an old item, I make sure to go to their store first to see if it’s still for sale, or I go to marketplace to see if maybe it’s there. Sometimes the store no longer exists, or they’ve changed what they sell, or they don’t sell that item any longer. But I still want to try. And I think it’s good, too. If it reminds someone “Oh right, I have that!” and the item gets used again, even if it’s just once, then I feel like I did a good job. And that’s really all I want to do. A good job. I want to work hard again and maybe one day, I’ll be back at that place I was before. But if not, that’s okay, too. I just want to keep doing this because I love it.

Let’s Get Lost

When I’m working in SL or playing a game that I’m just grinding on, I like to watch a movie or show on my other monitor. It has to be something that I don’t have to pay a ton of attention to, so typically it is something I’ve seen before. (Coincidentally, this is how I sleep, too. I have been through 50 seasons of Chopped in the past month or so, but have paid attention to maybe 4 episodes.) The movie series that I seem to turn to when I need something brainless that I don’t have to pay attention to?

The Twilight series.

I know. I know. It’s awful. The writing, the acting, everything. But that’s why they are the perfect background noise movies. But I have an issue with one part of Eclipse. Want to hear it? No? Scroll down for pic and credits, then. Also, Anthem is open and you need to go! But for the rest of you…

Picture it, Forks High School, 2006 or whatever. Bella and Eddie, Alice and Jasper, and the human kids are all sitting at lunch a week or so before graduation. Alice says cheerfully that she is going to throw a graduation party. The human kids are stunned. At their house? Didn’t even know where the Cullens lived. Did they have a house? Who knows. (Which I call shenanigans on because if Jessica had such a crush on Edward at one point, there was NO WAY she didn’t know where he lived. No way.) Eddie asks, “Another party?” Alice says it will be fun, and Bella jumps in with, “Yeah, that’s what you said last time.” Meaning her birthday party that landed her thrown against the wall and not in a good way.

NOW HERE IS MY PROBLEM.

The kids are probably thinking the Cullens have parties often, and Bella has been invited to their cool people parties, but none of the human kids ever have been! Because that’s what I would think if I heard that whole exchange! “What do they mean another party? When did they have parties? Bella went to a party at their place? Who goes to these parties? Not me, obviously. What the hell? Assholes.”

What does this have to do with anything? Nothing. I just needed to get it off my chest today. 😂
